At campgrounds and mobile home parks the driveway access will be addressed. A letter or number subscript will identify each unit. At condominium developments, each building will be addressed. Where this requires change of existing addresses, it may be delayed until development.

Roads or drives, public or private, having 4 or more developable sites or principle buildings will be named and addresses will be assigned to that road name. Other numbering criteria are consistent with county standards. The numbers progress at 400 numbers per mile and are assigned at 13.2 feet per digit. The Town of Washington uses a separate grid system with numbers starting southeast of the island at 100. Adjustments are made to accommodate existing numbers only where this will not cause a problem with sequence or range. Numbers are assigned at 17.6 feet per digit and are determined by the point where the driveway access meets the road. Number ranges in bold type indicate address ranges. Even numbers are on the right as you progress. Numbers then progress at 300 numbers per mile to the north or to the west. The number ranges shown represent a grid that starts at the south county line at 100 and just off shore in Lake Michigan at 100. This use will also be found where there is a break in an otherwise continuous rural road and indicates to which side of the break a road segment is located. These will be found at the City of Sturgeon Bay and the Village of Forestville because of the urban grid system used there. This applies to parallel sides of looped road configurations and roads at different locations with similar names. Where South, North, East, or West indicate a location, rather than a direction, it will be spelled out. “Lane”, Etc., from other roads will be spelled out. Similarities at connected roads are acceptable and will not be marked. The list identifies similar names with one asterisk (*) and duplicate names with two asterisks (**). The criteria for road name changes are based on the fewest number of addresses affected for each road name. Similar names that are determined to cause confusion may be eliminated as well.

Existing duplicated names will be eliminated where possible. No name that already exists in Door County will be acceptable at new developments. will not be allowed as road names other than county trunks. Those streets exist on the east of the City of Sturgeon Bay starting near the bay and are numbered from west to east. etc., in regard to Av., Ct., Dr., & Pl., are used in the city, and will not be accepted elsewhere. Road names noted as “not addressed” are named driveways serving three or less developments not addressed to that road name. Some names and locations may apply to resorts, camps or condominium developments. The list includes duplications compiled from incorporated village and city road name lists. There are pending road names for planned developments, and names being negotiated for changes.
